A Decade of Discipleship

by Jacob Wittneben Approximately ten years ago, I was a freshman in high school and was invited to Campus Life by some friends. It has been a long, exciting journey since then, and I’ve seen God do some amazing things through my life and others who have encountered God through this ministry. For myself, I was rather lost when I walked through Campus Life’s doors for the first time. I knew about God, Jesus’ life on earth, and other facts about the Bible because of my upbringing in the church; however, my relationship with Jesus was shallow at best.

It wasn’t until my first time attending our then-annual summer camp, Summer Charge, that I truly experienced God’s love and conviction to know Him on a deeper level. Since then, God has been growing me through the ministry of Campus Life in many different ways. I have consistently been encouraged, challenged and inspired to know God and His Word more through this ministry. That said, I owe a lot to this ministry’s previous student ministry directors, Mark Robinson and Sara-Jean Litke, for discipling me and helping me grow (despite the headaches I likely gave them throughout my earlier years). With that, I have had the privilege of serving as a volunteer, intern, part-time, and now full-time staff at Campus Life. And although I’ve been here for almost half my life at this point, I am still growing and learning about how amazing the Lord is to us even though we don’t deserve it.

Overall, through the ministry of Campus Life, I learned about who God really is and what a relationship with Christ really means. This has led me to be a better friend, husband, leader, and ultimately a follower of Christ. It has been an incredible journey, and I am excited to see where God takes me in the future.
